Which is Better: MSM Powder or MSM Tablets?

The question at hand is whether you should go with MSM Powder or MSM Tablets? Although it may seem trivial at first, there are actually some significant differences in how you take your supplement. First, what is not different is the MSM itself. As long as your supplement brand is pure (free of potentially harmful trace elements and minerals), whether tablet or powder, it is still the same Methyl Sulfonyl Methane. But now, on to the differences.

Arguments in Favor of MSM Powder

MSM powder is measured out manually and then dissolved in a fluid (such as water or juice) before being drunk. Therefore, powder allows complete control of the dosage, both in absolute quantity and distribution (e.g. taken all at once or spread throughout the day). Here are the main advantages of taking MSM powder over MSM tablets:

1. Methyl sulfonyl methane (MSM) is still a new dietary supplement with much ongoing research. What is clear is that it has a great many potential health benefits that are so diverse that it is likely impossible to generalize an exact daily dosage that will benefit everyone. Moreover, everyone has different ailments and conditions so no two individuals perceive exactly the same benefits from MSM in every respect. One person may take methyl sulfonyl methane for the general health benefits it gives them such as overall better metabolism which translates to increased and more consistent energy throughout their day and better sleep at night. On the other hand, another person might have a serious condition that requires they take a significantly higher dosage. The precise control of dosage allowed by MSM powder will allow you to experiment with quantity and distribution to find what works best for you as an individual.

2. Everyone has different diets, different weights, different life styles, and slightly different body chemistries. All of these factors will affect how much we need a dietary supplement, both in quantity (dosage) and quality (it’s health benefits for us). So once again, different individuals will benefit from MSM in different ways and from different quantities which puts MSM powder at an advantage over MSM tablets.

Arguments in Favor of MSM Tablets

MSM tablets are like any other supplement pills you take. They are already measured out to a precise dosage. Tablets have a few distinct advantages of their own. Why take MSM tablets?

1. Convenience. The dosage is exact and already measured out so it is more convenient because you don’t need to go through the hassle of measuring a new dose each day (or several times a day). Moreover, you don’t need to go through the hassle of dissolving MSM powder in a fluid to drink; just pop the pill and you’re on your way! This is particularly convenient if you already know exactly how much methyl sulfonyl methane you need but it is still arguably more convenient regardless.

2. Safety and Consistency. Because you know the exact quantities, whether you take one pill, two, or something else, you know exactly how much you are taking. The exact measurements of MSM tablets are safer in this way because there is no chance for accidental overdose (though it seems almost impossible to overdose on MSM).

And there you have it. MSM tablets give more precise pre-measured dosages and more convenience in their pill-form.  MSM Powder  allows for more accurate control of quantity and distribution specific to yourself. In the end, as long as your Methyl Sulfonyl Methane supplement is pure and high quality, whether you prefer MSM tablets or MSM powder, you should be seeing some great benefits no matter what!
